Week 1

My first week as a varsity high school football player was one of the most exciting weeks of my life. For some unknown reason, the day of the game, I was both nervous and excited. Though there was no chance for me to play, I could not wait until the game. My first as varsity player. We were expected to win, and after the game I was planning on attending a party with one of my buddies who had just obtained his drivers licence. I saw this night a sort of a one man coming out party (because we all know how much freshman go to parties). The game started slow, in the first quarter we had a beautiful seven play drive that ended in the end zone with a great run by our quarterback. Soon after that the other team had a beautiful drive of their own that tied it at 7-7. That was the score at the half. While the starters met in meeting room, my sophomore buddies and I were told to sit in the weight room and not say a word. We did as we were told until coach walked through the door. I figured that it was time for us to take our place on the sidelines again, but coach told us to grab the hand of the player nearest to us and say the lords prayer. As I said the prayer, I thought to myself how cool it was that even though we were just sophomores, we were still going to join the team in prayer. That really showed me that we were a TEAM. After halftime both teams punted on their first possession. The ball was back in our hands and on fourth and one from the one yard line our QB fell into the end zone on a sneak. 14-7. On the next possession the other team's QB rolled out and our two star linebackers zoned in him as if he were a dot on a radar. As one of them tackled him the ball popped loose and was lying their, free for the taking. Our other star picked that ball up and ran. He ran 88 yards all the way to the end zone. He is literally on the finest athletes I have ever seen. He is huge and fast. A Deadly combination, especially for a linebacker. 21-7. The next possession, the other team went three and out and punted the ball back to us. Our second running back( who is destined to play college ball) took of and was never caught. Breaking tackle after tackle for forty yards on an incredible run for six points. 28-7. That was the final score of my first varsity game. A win. It was a great feeling. In the huddle the after the game, coach announced that there was a Junior Varsity game on Monday. I was beyond excited however, at school on Monday it was announced that that game was cancelled due to rain. I was beyond irate. I got over it fast though, when it was also announced that sophomores could go home. I enjoyed my day off while the varsity watched film of the team we would take on that Friday. The back to back state champions.

That first game really was something wasn't it. I was also nervous and excited. You can't fully understand how Mom and I felt seeing you run out on that field, nor can we fully understand how you felt. But we all know it was SPECIAL!!!!
